Our Methods

A Commitment to unique sound

We believe the microphone's function is to present an accurate rendition of the source while adding an artistic character of its own. Many brands claim that their microphones sound like one of the standards of today or the past; our question is why copy someone else's sound when there is an unlimited palette of sounds still undiscovered. The heart of our microphones is our original sound.

Technological expertise

Our original microphone designs are the result of extensive research in current thinking combined with decades of electronic and studio engineering expertise. Our products often take years to develop because of the amount of research, thought, and testing that goes into each design.

Highest Production Standards

The quality of our products is held to the highest of standards throughout the entire manufacturing process. Every product goes through multiple quality control stages before reaching our customers.

He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the company, including ten years of hands-on experience in electronics and circuitry design as a product development engineer of radio receivers and speakers. He holds a BS degree in Physics and Masters and Ph.D. degrees with focus on aerodynamics and computer simulation from a top university in the Netherlands. With his academic background and experience, Dr. Chen is able to apply Physics theorems to improve capsule and circuitry designs in microphones. He is intimately familiar with the latest research in Acoustic theory, and developed a capsule simulation model that has proven to be invaluable in the development of high-quality capsules. He has also been working on a revolutionary microphone testing system that links qualitative observations from hearing tests to quantitative physical properties and attributes. Dr. Chen worked in the academic field as a Lead Scientist and Researcher for over 25 years, and held positions at Duke University, University of Wisconsin at Madison, San Diego State University, and National Research Institute of China. Most recently he was in the high-tech industry and joined Lauten Audio from IBM.

Our Name

People often ask where our name came from. The Lauten brand name is derived from the first part of our founders last name “Loudenslager”. The Loudenslager name was originally spelled “Lautenschlager” and gradually misspelled over the years by predominantly English registrars in the U.S. First the “t” was changed to “d”, and then the “ch” was dropped and so on. There are many variations of misspellings present today.

The Lautenschlager name is documented back to 1552 in Gunterfurst, Erbach, Hessen, Germany, with the first arrival in the U.S. about 1771.

It is generally accepted that Lautenschlager originally meant Lute-player, thus a musician. How appropriate that this name is now incorporated into a microphone company dedicated to reproducing a musicians sound.

Our Emblem

Our company emblem is a simple yet powerful design. It is made up of three different parts. First, the overall shape of the emblem depicts a shield representing our passion and commitment to the brand. Second, there are two letter “L’s” one rotated at a slight angle and the other at 180 degrees representing the first letter of our brand name. Finally, the center represents a frequency curve depicting we are an audio related company.
