Hear how it sounds from the bedroom of Josiah and the Bonnevilles
Recorded live in a single take with his LA-120 and LA-320 microphones in a bedroom at home, Josiah And the Bonneville’s “Ancient History” is an uplifting retrospective on personal forgiveness and a newfound determination to see the mistakes of the past as if they existed lifetimes removed from the present.
The lyrics for "Ancient History" come from a very personal place for frontman Josiah Leming:
“I had been through a rough patch mentally. The record I was working on had experienced huge delays, and then Covid shut down all touring and live prospects. I made a lot of mistakes that compounded my inner turmoil, and I was trying to get my life back together. I did pay an old debt like the lyrics say. I did make a new friend."
"I was about to begin work at an Amazon warehouse in Lebanon Tennessee. I had to let go of the weight of expectations and feeling like I had missed the mark. The song is about looking at the recent past as if it was the ancient past. No more real than the stories you hear thousands of years ago. It's about appreciation for today."
"All of those things, to me, are dressings for the core message of the song - forgiveness, toward myself and toward others - a common theme of a lot of my material from that era of my life that I am now releasing."
